In 2006, 71 year old Sydney grandfather Rod Smith paddled 2,000km along the Murray River.
He completed his solo journey during a period of drought and extreme weather conditions, all the while recording his experiences and rallying the media and river communities around the depleted state of the Murray River.
Rod also raised $25,000 for Ronald McDonald House charities.
You can find out more about Rod's adventure on his Facebook page.

Mallacoota is a great spot for the paddling enthusiast.
It is situated on the ocean (for open sea kayaking) and an extensive lake system which is great for paddling or just kicking back with a fishing rod.
When in Mallacoota, we choose to stay at the Mallacoota Hotel Motel, which offers comfortable accommodation, a cool ale from the bar and tasty meals at the Bistro, all under one roof.
